market, blog regularly
ORIGINATION VOLUMES MAY BE ONLY A
fraction of what they were a few years
ago, but opportunity still exists for
mortgage brokers who know how to
focus on a niche and control it through
effective marketing.
the days of being everything to every-
one are over. Mortgage prospects typi-
cally do not need a generalist to advise
them on financing. the Internet has become that resource. If they don’t apply
online, then by the time they sit down
with a broker, most borrowers are looking for an essential resource — an expert.
borrowers often don’t realize they’re
in a niche, however. they may know they
need a Federal Housing Administration
loan, a Department of Veterans Affairs
loan or a jumbo loan, but typically, only
brokers realize that their prospects
are part of a niche that requires
specialized knowledge.
How can you best use that knowledge and experience to woo prospects within your niche to your office,
though? to command a niche, you
must be the most prolific provider of
information on your particular niche
found in a Web search. that means
you should be blogging.
When you create a blog that is
specific to a niche, you are creating
a tailor-made platform of ideas that
may have been unavailable to those
prospects previously. A blog with
invaluable information and insight can
help position you as an expert in your
niche almost immediately.
social media outlets to direct traffic to
your blog, and include a link in your
e-mail signature. be sure to get in on
conversations regarding your niche
in other places on the Web, as well,
and always include a link back to your
own blog.
to truly take ownership of your
niche, blog regularly. try to post
something at least two times a week,
but the more, the better. In a world of
instant access, a three-day-old post is
already old news.
Stay on top of your market. better
yet: Stay ahead of your market by driving
the conversation. •
