Take Back Your Life — and Your Smartphone
By eliminating unwanted calls and texts you can reclaim your mobile life
Mortgage brokers and loan originators use communica- tion skills to generate referral business, leads and relationships.
Without a smartphone, many would
struggle to accomplish these vital
tasks. Smartphones aren’t without
their flaws, however. the most glaring
of these is their inability to identify and
stop unwanted calls.
as landline usage decreases and
business professionals use their smartphones for seemingly all communication, telemarketers and data-providers
vigorously chase cellphone numbers. In
many cases, they seek this information
from e-mail signature lines and business cards.
Consequently, many business professionals now find themselves fielding more junk phone calls and wasting
time dealing with aggressive telemarketers. In many situations, the inability
to identify and block telemarketers can
be detrimental, causing mortgage professionals to:
• interrupt an important meeting to
answer a meaningless phone call;
• ignore important calls from unrec-
ognized phone numbers; and
• Become aggravated by repeated
calls from the same telemarketer.
Some mortgage professionals may
find themselves torn when dealing with
these issues. after all, many salespeople begin their careers by making cold
calls. Nonetheless, the ability to manage your incoming calls is a key step in
ensuring the best-possible communication with clients, real estate professionals, business partners, and just about
everyone else in your personal and
professional life. to do this, consider
adding an application to your phone
that blocks telemarketing calls and
identifies callers even when they’re not
saved in your phone.
“Any caller ID service you
pay for should also provide
identification information for
incoming text messages.”
When shopping for such a service,
seek the following features:
• caller id: Select an application that
provides the same type of caller ID
functionality traditionally found
on landlines. at the least, it should
provide you the name and phone
number of every caller. the best
services tap outside databases and
display detailed information the
moment your phone begins to ring.
Moreover, any caller ID service you
pay for should also provide identi-
fication information for incoming
text messages. Many telemarketers
now use the Internet and Voice over
Internet Protocol (VoIP) to gener-
ate mobile spam. as a result, more
people receive text messages from
unknown callers.
