The unemployment rate continued to move
down in the first half of 2017. The rate fell to
4. 3 percent this past July, the same as the
May mark, which was on par with the lowest
unemployment rate in 16 years, the U.S. Department of Labor reported.

National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)
member builders reported significant labor
shortages in the construction trades in a survey
released this past August. The results are an
indicator of a worsening labor-shortage situation
that has contributed to a shortage of home starts.
