Nationally, home flips represented 5 percent of all
single-family home sales in the third quarter of 2018.
In some cities, however, home flipping represented a
much higher percentage of sales, Attom Data Solutions
reported. Among the 133 metros that saw at least
50 home flips in this past third quarter, Memphis,
Tennessee, had the highest flipping rate —
exceeding 10 percent.

As people age, they are more likely
to become homeowners, according to
U.S. Census Bureau data for third-quarter
2018. The homeownership rate for people
under the age of 35 was under 40 percent,
compared with nearly 80 percent for
individuals 65 years and older,
